Grandezza del Bus dati
Le moderne motherboard della classe Pentium hanno un BUS dati a 64 bits. Questa è la larghezza della "strada" che porta i dati dentro e fuori il processore.
La larghezza la velocità dei bus dati è andata sempre migliorando negli anni a causa delle CPU sempre più potenti e veloci e delle appliazioni multimediali. I BUS tipici esistenti sono i seguenti:
- ISA Industry Solution Architecture (8 o 16 bits)
- EISA Extended Industry Solution Architecture (8 o 16 bits)
- MCA Microchannel Architecture (16 o 32 bits)
- VLB Vesa Local Bus (32 bits)
- PCI Peripheral Component Interconnect (32 o 64 bits)
- AGP Accelerated Graphics Port (32 bits)
